Exterior view of a home with well trimmed and groomed greenery

When considering the curb appeal of your home, there are a lot of different elements and aspects to consider. Siding, landscaping, and roofing are all great options to increase the physical aesthetic appeal of your home. One often overlooked upgrade to the exterior of your home, is windows.

Different types of windows

Updating your windows is a great investment because it not only affects the appeal of the exterior of your home, but it also gives an upgrade to the interior of your home as well. If you’re thinking that it may be time to upgrade your windows, here are a few different types of windows to consider:

Bay and Bow Windows – These windows are considered “statement” windows, and can be an incredible point of attraction for your home. These gorgeous windows are the perfect addition to front rooms or kitchens.

Picture windows – The purpose of a picture window is to have a place to gaze outside. If you live in a naturally scenic area, or are especially proud of the landscaping of your backyard, a picture window will be perfect for you.

Arched windows – An elegant, but simple addition to your window is to add an arch. It doesn’t affect the actual glass, just the design around the window. It adds visual interest and will give the appearance of taller windows.

Painted trim and shutters

To really increase the aesthetic appeal of your windows, you can choose to add either trim or shutters. Trim goes on the interior side, and act as almost a frame for your windows. Shutters provide interest on the exterior of your home. Shutters can be a fun option, as there are so many different things you can do with shutters. Different colors, different styles, and you can even have your favorite designs painted onto them. If you decide you don’t like it a few years down the road, they can easily and inexpensively be repainted, making them the perfect addition to the exterior of your home.

Window boxes

A window box is the perfect idea for those that possess a green thumb. Much easier to maintain than an entire garden, a window box is the perfect opportunity for you to add a pop of color to the exterior of your home. This can be an especially beautiful addition if you choose to have the color of the box match the color of your shutters, helping the color of the flowers really stand out.
